Heritage appreciation at Pasir Panjang Park

Free of charge

About the area's history

Pasir Panjang Park pays tribute to Pasir Panjang’s significance as one of Singapore’s major port terminals, as well as its history as a sandy beach.

Pasir Panjang, which means "long sandy beach" in Malay, used to house a beach that stretched from the present-day Labrador Nature Reserve to the junction of Clementi and West Coast roads. The park was designed with sandy vegetation and terrain inspired by the coastline.

Maritime heritage

Look out for maritime heritage displays that give a nod to the area’s port history, such as:

  • 3 shelters that were repurposed from shipping containers donated by PSA Singapore. These are located within a 2.2km section of the park that opened in September 2023, which stretches from Pasir Panjang Food Centre to West Coast Park.
  • A ship telegraph and anchor donated by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
  • An old cannon that was previously displayed in the old Pasir Panjang Park and is now part of Singapore’s National Collection. This is on loan from the National Heritage Board (NHB).
  • Horn bollards that were used at Tanjong Pagar Terminal since 1972.

Community heritage

The design of the park incorporates ideas from the community, such as a heritage showcase featuring old photos of the area contributed by the public.
