Parks and nature reserves etiquette

Find out the dos and don'ts in our parks and nature reserves to protect wildlife, conserve the environment and ensure the safety of everyone.

The rules are important for the safety of the flora and fauna in our parks and nature reserves, and to ensure you and other visitors have an enjoyable experience.

When in a park

Refer to the following dos and don'ts to ensure our parks are safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Apply for a camping permit if you wish to camp at one of our designated campsites or book a barbecue pit if you wish to hold a barbecue at our parks.	Make a lot of noise. Keep noise levels low so that the sounds of nature can be better appreciated.
Be a responsible pet owner by cleaning up after your dog. Do also keep your dog on a leash or use a muzzle, if necessary.	Feed native or stray animals, or release animals into our parks. Doing so may upset our fragile ecosystem and cause more harm than good.
Stay on designated trails. Stepping off tracks while on nature trails may result in disturbance or trampling of flora and fauna.	Disturb, follow or approach any wildlife. Refer to the animal advisories to find out what you should do when encountering wildlife.
Show care and consideration by keeping our park amenities in pristine condition for all to enjoy You should also park at designated lots and leave accessible lots for those who need them.	Litter to keep the environment clean as it can spoil the beauty of our parks and also harm the wildlife. Dispose of your litter at designated bins around our parks.

Smoking in parks

Smoking is prohibited at parks, gardens and nature reserves to safeguard air quality and protect the health and well-being of all visitors.

You should only smoke in Designated Smoking Areas (DSAs). These are located near carparks or away from the main park area, and can be found at the following parks:

Drone flying in parks

For the safety of others and to protect our biodiversity, do fly your drones in a safe and responsible manner.

You may fly your drones in parks that do not have a "no flying" sign. The flying of drones is not allowed in all nature reserves, nature parks as well as the following parks:

Fort Canning Park
Jurong Lake Gardens
Kranji Marshes
Kranji Reservoir Park
Lower Peirce Reservoir Park
Pasir Panjang Nursery
Pulau Ubin
Rail Corridor
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Upper Peirce Reservoir Park
Upper Seletar Reservoir Park
War Memorial Park

If you wish to fly your drone at the HortLawn, Hort Centre, or the Silver Garden within HortPark, you will have to apply for drone usage at least 2 weeks before the intended flying date.

Applications submitted less than 2 weeks in advance will not be considered.

Moving around in parks and park connectors

To ensure a safe and pleasant experience in our parks and park connector network (PCN), do take note of the types of devices permitted on various paths and abide by the safety guidelines and onsite signage.

Refer to the PCN etiquette on what you should and should not do if you are riding a bicycle, personal mobility device (PMD) or power-assisted bicycle (PAB)

You may also refer to the Active Mobility Act (AMA) to find out more about the regulations regarding the use of public paths.

During bad weather

Seek shelter during bad weather. Do not enter forested areas during and immediately after bad weather.

Check the weather forecast before visiting.

You may also take the opportunity to visit the indoor art and exhibition spaces in our parks instead.

During hot and dry weather

There is a risk of vegetation fire during extreme hot and dry weather.

You should not use open flame in our parks and other green spaces except at designated barbecue pits and campfire sites. You should dispose of flammable items responsibly.
