Coral nursery at Small Sister's Island

About the coral nursery

When water temperatures rise, corals lose their source of food and become more susceptible to diseases. As a result they turn white, in a process known as coral bleaching.

To safeguard local hard corals from bleaching, a purpose-built reef structure was sunk in the waters off Small Sister's Island, establishing a coral nursery within the JTC-NParks Reef Garden.

This nursery helps by:

  • Contributing 1000sqm of reef substrate to the marine park.
  • Offering corals threatened by bleaching a controlled environment to promote their survival.

How to contribute

Support our reefs by sponsoring a coral through the Plant-A-Coral, Seed-A-Reef Programme. The minimum donation amount is $200.
