In between taking in the splendid views of Telok Blangah Hill Park, retreat to Alkaff Mansion, a 19th-century colonial bungalow perched at the top of Telok Blangah Hill, for a relaxing meal and drink.
The elegant two-storey Tudor-style Alkaff Mansion was built in 1918 by Syed Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Alkaff, a member of an affluent Arab family who traded in sugar, coffee and spices between India and Indonesia. It was used to host parties for notable members of society and rich colonial personalities.
The property was also known as Mount Washington, possibly due to the close relations the Alkaffs enjoyed with the American community in Singapore then.
Today, it is a conservation mansion restored by the Singapore Tourism Board. It has been redeveloped to house several F&B establishments and is an exclusive venue for weddings and private events.
