In 2012, 2 Raffles Institution students came up with a proposal to enhance the butterfly population in the park. After their proposal was accepted and with the help of residents and volunteers, the butterfly habitat was created at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
3 years later, APRIL Group, a pulp and paper manufacturer from Indonesia, made a $100,000 donation to the Garden City Fund. Their contribution allowed for the addition of 15 more plant species that are attractive to butterflies, and the expansion of the butterfly habitat from 260 sqm to 500 sqm.
Today, the butterfly habitat is currently maintained by volunteers and is home to more than 30 butterfly species. See if you can spot the orange Tawny Coster and the Plain Tiger Butterfly when you pay a visit!
