At the cleansing biotope, a natural, chemical-free method is used to treat the river and pond water that you see in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. It consists of a series of specially engineered wetland cells that contain nutrient-poor substrates on which plants known for their natural water-cleansing properties are grown.
These plants help to filter pollutants and absorb nutrients from the water in order to maintain water quality for the enjoyment of all park visitors.
Part of the filtered water from the cleansing biotope flows into the control room for further UV treatment. This treated water is fed to the water playground. The rest of the filtered water is recirculated into the landscape pond.
As you walk along the meandering boardwalk, try to spot the following vibrant aquatic plants that we use to filter water pollutants.
