About the Beaulieu House

Built in the 1910s, Beaulieu House was the holiday residence of Joseph Brooke David, a Jewish businessman. The colonial government acquired Beaulieu House from David in the 1920s. They occupied it until 1942 when they were forced to abandon it due to the Japanese Occupation. After the Japanese forces had left, the British navy returned to occupy Beaulieu House once more until they withdrew from Singapore in 1968.

Since then, the area around the house has been redeveloped into Sembawang Park. Beaulieu House has been serving as a restaurant which serves both Western and Asian cuisine since 1981. In 2005, the building was accorded conservation status.

Architecture of the Beaulieu House

The single-storey bungalow was built in a neoclassical style, with elegant ornamentation and plaster details. It has a distinctive rooftop patio, framed with ornate cast-iron railings creating a befitting crown. More intricate cast-iron railings line the front porch, inviting visitors to climb up the steps and enter the house's charming interior.
