The Plant Biosecurity and Phytosanitary Services (PBPS) section within the Plant Science and Health (PSH) branch of NParks is responsible for fulfilling the functions of the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) to protect plant resources locally and internationally from plant pests.
PBPS oversees the import of plants, plant products and regulated articles while facilitating trade through the issuance of phytosanitary certificates for export and re-export.
Phytosanitary certification facilitates international trade in plants, plant products and other regulated articles by providing an internationally agreed certificate and related procedures.
It ensures the exported consignment meets the phytosanitary import requirements of the receiving country and contributes to the protection of plants, including cultivated and uncultivated or unmanaged plants and wild flora, habitats and ecosystems.
